Access to Stuart Island is by float plane or boat. Guests are flown in by arrangement and are cheerfully greeted by lodge staff at the Orca Point marina. Flight time from the nearest town, Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, takes only about 15 minutes; from Vancouver International, about 55 minutes depending on aircraft type.
Travel Tips
Clothing
The area’s marine climate varies in temperature during the season between 10°C and 25°C (50°F to 80°F). Mornings and evenings can be cool, with quite warm days. Expect rainy periods, this is the “Wet Coast”. A layered approach to clothing, topped with a lightweight weatherproof shell, allows one to adjust easily for comfort, depending on activity. Recommendations are for a raincoat, sweater, fleece or jacket, hat, sportswear, workout clothes and swimwear, and practical casual wear: jeans, tee or polo shirts, shorts, slacks, comfortable dresses, shirts or blouses, walking and athletic shoes. Neckties are unnecessary.
